How to use this glossary
Terms are listed A to Z; use the letters to jump. Where a word has a longer explanation elsewhere on Voienexo, the definition links to it — odds formats to our odds guide, each way, Rule 4 and starting price to our racing terms guide, handicaps and total points to our GAA betting guide, and cash out to our guide to in-play betting and cash out. Links inside a definition that stay on this page take you to a related term.
The glossary covers how bets are written and settled, a handful of racing and GAA words, the GRAI licences you will see mentioned on bookmakers’ sites, and the account tools that help you stay in control. Some bookmakers use slightly different names for the same thing, and every bookmaker’s own rules decide how a bet is settled, so treat these definitions as a plain-English starting point and check the rules before you bet. Promotions appear only where a term needs them, described neutrally: a promotion is set by the bookmaker, and its terms are what count.
A word on risk. Betting is entertainment, not a way to earn an income, and most bets lose. Set a deposit limit before you start. If betting is causing you worry, the GamblingCare National Helpline is open 24/7 on 1800 936 725.
